If you haven't figured it out already, Brody Dorland is our new Social Media Chair. He - or one of his committee members - will be taking over for me on this site. So, still be on the lookout for FX events and announcements, just don't be surprised if they're not from your friendly purple typewriter. :-)

Are you a graphic designer? Are you passionate about raw/organic food?

A raw food enthusiast friend of mine is assisting with an upcoming event in KC called "Bliss Fest". They'll have speakers, vendors, music etc. 300 + people.

They need some graphic design work done to produce 3 banners for the event that display the Bliss Fest logo and various sponsor logos. Should be a cake walk. By donating your services, you get to add you logo to the banners and I believe you may be showered with "raw food love".

Send me an e-mail at brody@somethingcreativeinc.com if you're interested in donating your services for this event. I'll send you more details and get you hooked up with the event coordinator.

Thanks!

There are many job sites like oDesk, e.g., Guru.com, Elance.com. The problem with all of them is that there are lots of people underbidding you for every job. Out of curiosity, I looked at one I might qualify for, and the low bid was $9.97 per hour. I agree with Brody that networking, whether in person or online, can produce better results.

Hey Cindy! I don't have personal experience with oDesk, but If you're struggling to find project work, I can't see as how it would hurt. It's ultimately another fishing hole that may provide some bites. I would just make sure you aren't spending too much time trying to catch something on oDesk when your personal and local watering holes may be ripe with fish...that is if you are using the right bait...

If you want to find out if you have the right bait, you might want to check out the Freelance Exchange's upcoming luncheon on July 31st, "Social Media for the Creative Soul". An update/announcement of the event will be coming shortly. Check back!

Does anyone have any experience working with clients on oDesk? I stumbled upon this service the other day when doing some job searches.

I'm looking forward to interacting with other entrepreneurs and freelancers. I am also interested in growing my network of online marketing partners. Thanks, Ron

Need some input: What do you believe a Virtual Assistant does?

Need some advice and support from those of you who have been successful freelancing. Have been doing some small freelancing projects while I have been looking for another job, but all signs point to becoming my own boss. Right now, fear is my biggest obstacle. Is there really enough business out there for freelance marketing services with this economy? There are a lot of out-of-work marketing professionals out there already.
