I'm a new member of the group and I'd like to recommend the upcoming My Morning Jacket show at the Uptown. One of the most exciting, high energy live bands out today ... my opinion of course. August 18th -- expect to be blown away!

I would second Philip's plug for Barclay Martin Ensemble. Mark Lowrey (piano) is a tremendous musician and the group is fun to watch.

Now for a personal plug - my band VEHICLE is participating in the Battle for the Red White and BOOM tomorrow night at the Mission Theater. This is a semi-finals performance where we will be competing against 5 other bands. Start time is 8pm, and I believe tickets are $8 at the door.

If we are voted to win, we advance with the opportunity to open for the Red, White, and Boom concert festival at Sand Stone. Very exciting for 5 guys who grew up here!

I am not a musician but thought I'd join so I could be an advocate for some of my musical friends. I'll invite them but they're already trying to stay on top of their personal sites, MySpace & Facebook, so they're not inclined to join another community right now.

First plug. Get tickets (just $9) to the Barclay Martin Ensemble CD release party this Saturday. You will not be disappointed.

Make sure you get a ticket to see The Roots, one of the best bands in the world (no exaggeration), at Harrah's Voodoo Lounge July 3. They put on one of the best shows of the year in 2007. Their cover of Bob Dylan's "Masters of War" blew me away. Tickets went on sale this morning at Ticketmaster. Also don't miss Jill Scott at Starlight August 7. Tickets on sale May 17.

I have to put in a plug for Crosstown Station. My band "Vehicle" played there a week ago at the "Battle of the Ad Bands", and it was a GREAT venue. Perfect layout, great lighting, great gear. Need a little bit of adjustment on sound level, but otherwise the best place to play for a musician with a 5-piece band.

Glad we have this forum - looking forward to being a part of it!
