Thanks for reaching out. I apologize for the lack of profile as I am just getting up-and-running here.
Aside from what he's doing now (getting sales experience) I would recommend a couple of things. First, be patient. The industry is very cyclical and is currently in a bit of a "contraction" mode. As with every business that will eventually turn to expansion so I would encourage him to apply to any position of interest. Second, I would suggest working with some local representatives to see if their companies will support a "ride-along" aka a day spent in the field with the rep. Some may be hesitant because of liability issues these days, but if he can swing it, it would be a tremendous experience and show great initiative. Finally, it never hurts to get to know retail pharmacy staff, physicians, or office staff that are willing to provide their insights. Every company is different and has their own culture. Many times these medical professionals can provide great insight and direction. I hope that's not too long winded. I just know that it can be a competitive industry so anything he can do to differentiate himself in his research (as well as his current sales career) would be beneficial.
